The Legend of Captain Farron

So my wife and I had a competition a few days back to write a pirate story – me, being the dorky sort I am, turned mine into a sea shanty, set to the tune of “The Wellerman” (the sea shanty that got super popular on social media like TikTok) sans chorus. Here is the result down below!

There once was a captain, fair of hair

Cap’n Farron, she’d declare,

“A quest for Kraken, if ye dare,

Go to sea we’ll go.”

She had not been three days from shore

When down on her a storm did bore.

The captain called all hands and swore,

“Row, ye laddies, row.”

They made it through with no man lost,

The quest did bear no great a cost.

Two islands ‘tween they soon then crossed.

She ordered them to slow.

The Kraken swam up to them fast,

Its tendrils wrapped about the mast.

The men readied, their looks aghast,

Primed to fell their foe.

“Halt!” cried Cap’n, great and loud,

Confusion ran all through the crowd.

Doubt did fill them like a shroud,

Did cap’n’s senses go?

Three barrels she did toss to sea,

When beast roared loud she did not flee.

The Kraken grabbed the chum with glee

And took them down below.

The captain ordered them, “Abort,”

And they returned with spirits short.

She left them to sail to new port,

And this did legend grow.
